Eons of ages ago, an unknown, powerful spirit roamed the face of the Dark Continent. In the Dark Continent most of the time, the sky was a deep, foreboding grey, like the belly of a beast that had swallowed the sun whole. Yet, within this darkness, a mesmerizing beauty unfolded. Rain drizzled lazily from the heavens, like silken strands of a spider’s web. The droplets clung to the air, suspended in a misty veil that shrouded the lands in mystery.
The atmosphere of the Dark Continent was heavy with moisture. Dew-kissed leaves glistened, and the scent of damp earth rose from the ground, rich and loamy.
There were no extreme hot seasons or cold seasons. The spirit liked it as it was, and so it spent a thousand years roaming from one corner of the continent to the other, barely ever interacting with the people and animals that inhabited the Dark Continent.
The inhabitants of the Dark Continent were a diverse array of indigenous peoples, with skin tones ranging from deep ebony to warm golden brown, and hair textures varying from tightly coiled to softly flowing. Their rural cultures were deeply rooted in the rich soil and abundant natural resources of the Dark Continent.
They resided in small, scattered villages, crafted from locally sourced materials like mud, thatch, and wood. Their societies were mostly characterized by a strong sense of community and shared identity, with each tribe boasting of its own distinct customs, traditions, and spiritual practices.
The powerful spirit yearned to experience the Dark Continent like the people; to be given birth to and taken care of by a mother, have a family, and be part of a tribe. Bored of solitude and wanting to interact with the people who it scared off when it appeared to them as a spirit, It tried to create itself as a baby in a woman's womb.
But, the Dark Continent did not allow it. She had laws for the nature of her land and a spirit that powerful in human form would break all of them.
Unless it agreed to let go of some of its powers it would never satisfy its yearning for a life as a mortal.
And so the spirit divided its powers into three. One part it gave to the Dark Continent, the second it further divided into four giving them the consciousness of four distinct weaker spirits that could assume the appearance of mystical beasts, and the third (its own consciousness) it divided into Ten souls.
These souls were to be released at random into the Dark Continent to be born of different mothers, have different families, and come from different tribes
The ten souls had their consciousness wiped temporarily. At birth, they had no idea what they were, so they were raised as normal children until dire situations triggered a part of their memories, revealing their unique gifts.
Their unique gifts included: One, teleportation; Two, great strength; Three, the ability to converse with animals; Four, the ability to converse and control spirits; Five, the ability to gather storm clouds and summon lightning from within; Six, the ability to influence the mind of others; the ability to carry and move physical things with the mind; Seven, ability to heal anything with life; Eight, visions into the near future; Nine, supernatural precision and accuracy; Ten, immortality (can only dies after living for hundred years).
The four distinct weaker spirits which assumed the physical appearance of a mermaid, a giant Ox-beast with the body of a man, an eagle that could converse with people, and an old man respectively, guided and provided clues for the ten people that harbored the unique gifts on their journeys through life.
Every time the souls were born, soon after birth began to notice and use their gifts, and so did the people around them. Some were scared of them, some revered them and others hated them, But all referred to them as the divine spirits of the Dark Continent.
They lived through life as mortals over and over again, reincarnating and experiencing life in different bodies for generations and generations to come.
